In This Issue: Article: How to Get Your Phone to Ring

 ________________

How to Get Your Phone to Ring We had a great teleseminar last week on new trends in website design.

Most of the calls and email afterwards ran along common lines: "How do I get people to visit my website?"

I thought that would make a good topic for this week's newsletter.

The easiest way to get traffic to your site is to run small display ads that give away something FREE (usually a special report or white paper). You'll want to run these small display ads in publications that your target audience is known to read (usually not the daily newspaper.)

Here is an ad that I did for en estate planning lawyer.

This ad will run in small, local weekly papers (seniors do read local weekly papers.) You could also run something like this in an elderly lifestyle magazine or a wealth planning magazine.

You can look at the display ad here: http://www.getresponse.com/t/1659153/

Here are the 11 reasons that this is a good ad:

  1. We have only one objective--get the prospective client to call for our "Special Report" kit or go to our web site and download it. They will have to give us their name, email address, postal address and telephone number to download it.
  2. There is a compelling headline: "Disinherit the IRS NOW!" Nobody likes to pay taxes...this is always a hot button.
  3. We have two unique competitive advantages listed: a. We imply that we are highly aggressive towards the IRS and protective of our client;'s interests b. We have 22 years experience at this area of law
  4. The headline is COMPELLING
  5. We use the most powerful word in marketing "FREE."
  6. There is a picture of a real person in the ad. Studies show people respond at much higher rates to advertisements that have close up pictures (showing the eye) of real people.
  7. We are showing benefits by alluding to "pain" in the form of all kinds of unpleasant surprises that the IRS MIGHT have in the wings for you.
  8. Being FREE...it's RISK FREE. They have NOTHING to loose by responding.
  9. There is a call to action.
  10. It's simple to respond----call or visit the web site.

The ad could have benefited from a deadline (either real or artificial) as deadlines create URGENCY. Since we plan on running the ad for a lengthy period of time...it would be unrealistic to "create" an artificial deadline or supply constraint.

There you have it.

Follow this type of format and layout and your phone will start ringing.

Until next time.

Warmly
